Breaking Barriers

The Calgary Elder Abuse Awareness Collective is hosting Breaking Barriers on June 14th to encourage an engaging conversation about World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD).

Due to capacity limitations, this event is invite only by the organizations involved. Calgary Elder Abuse Awareness Collective: 211, Calgary Chinese Elderly Citizens' Associations, CCIS, Calgary Police Service, Carya, Immigrant Services Calgary, JFSC, Roman Catholic Diocese of Calgary, and Unison at Kerby Centre

Calgary area:

As a way to take action against Elder Abuse, Unison has joined forces with Carya and the Calgary Police to offer older adults the Elder Abuse Response Team (EART). 

This multidisciplinary team of social workers and police officers work together to identify, investigate, and support high risk and/or chronic cases of elder abuse. 

  • If you or someone you know may be experiencing elder abuse, please call the Elder Abuse Resource Line at 403-705-3250.
  • To make a report on a suspected case of elder abuse, please call the police non-emergency line at 403-266-1234.
  • If this is an emergency or someone you know is at immediate risk, please call 911.

#PurpleAwareness2024 — Take action against Elder Abuse!

On June 7th, 2024, 10am, Unison at Veiner Centre (Medicine Hat) is hosting a "Flair your hair or the hat you wear — Go purple“ to commemorate World Elder Abuse Awareness Day! Together, let’s take action against Elder Abuse!

During Seniors’ Week (June 3rd - 7th), we also encourage you to explore our Elder Abuse Awareness resources at Unison at Veiner Centre at our information table.
