Food Security Program
Food is one of the most important and vital needs to be met in our communities. Unison’s Food Security program aims to combat hunger through a variety of projects and initiatives.
What We Offer
Meals on Wheels
Meals on Wheels provides affordable, nutritious meals delivered directly to the homes of older adults and others who may have difficulty preparing meals independently due to illness, disability, mobility limitations, recovery from surgery, or other circumstances. Subsidized meals are available for eligible low-income individuals. Click here to learn more.
Wellness Market
Helping older adults experiencing food insecurity stretch their food budgets through free access to a limited selection of donated food. Donations are available daily on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last. Items vary depending on availability and may include bread, bakery items, fresh produce, salads, and other donated foods.
Community Kitchen
Unison, in partnership with the Root Cellar, offers monthly Community Kitchens for adults 50+ with an income of $30,000 or less. Community Kitchens go beyond cooking—they foster dignity, connection, and confidence while helping seniors stretch their budgets and access nutritious food.
How it Works
Small groups (limit 6) gather in the Root Cellar’s fully equipped kitchen. Seniors cook healthy meals together and take home 2–4 servings for later. Free of charge, with ingredients provided.
Impact
Seniors leave with not only meals for their freezer, but also new skills, friendships, and a sense of community. It helps reduce food insecurity while strengthening social connections.
