Job Announcement: Food Services Assistant/Cook

  • Position: Food Services Assistant/Cook           
  • Terms of Employment: Part-time, Permanent
  • Salary range: $22,902 - $24,108 per year (for 20 hours per week)
  • Location: Calgary

 

Job Purpose

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Cook to join our culinary team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in food preparation and a commitment to maintaining high standards of food safety and quality. As a Cook, you will play a vital role in creating delicious meals that delight our guests while ensuring that the kitchen operates smoothly and efficiently.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and cook a variety of dishes according to established recipes and menu specifications.
  • Follow Open and Closing Procedures list.
  • Assist with meal preparation, ensuring all ingredients are fresh and properly stored.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization in the kitchen, adhering to food safety standards.
  • Collaborate with kitchen staff to ensure timely service during peak hours.
  • Monitor food inventory levels and assist with ordering supplies as needed.
  • Support in training new kitchen staff/volunteers on food handling procedures and cooking techniques.
  • Follow strict health and safety regulations to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Run Kitchen in absence of the chef.

 

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Minimum high school diploma with some post secondary training.

Knowledge and Experience:

  • Previous experience in a restaurant or food service environment is required.
  • Knowledge of food handling, food safety practices, and meal preparation techniques is essential.
  • Familiarity with various cooking methods, ingredients, equipment, and procedures within the food industry.
  • Experience with baking and catering an asset.

Skills:

  • Willing to work with Flexible Schedules if needed
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen setting while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.

Working Hours:

Work is in a fully operational kitchen. Full-time hours are 7:30 – 2:30 Monday-Friday plus evenings and/or weekends as required. Shifts can vary. Part-time shifts are as negotiated.
