Job Purpose
The Marketing Assistant supports Unison’s marketing, communications, fundraising, and community engagement initiatives by creating compelling content, coordinating campaigns and events, maintaining digital platforms, and ensuring consistent brand messaging. Working collaboratively with internal departments and external partners, the Marketing Assistant helps increase awareness of the organization’s mission, programs, services, and fundraising efforts. 40% of the Assistant time will be devoted to the programs operated in Medicine Hat and 40% of their time will be devoted to marketing the super member agreements, programs and activities.
Key Responsibilities:
Marketing and Communications
• Assist in the planning, coordination, and implementation of marketing and communication strategies.
• Create, edit, and proofread marketing materials including brochures, newsletters, posters, presentations, and promotional materials.
• Prepare content for social media platforms, website updates, blogs, email campaigns, and digital newsletters.
• Maintain a consistent organizational brand across all communications.
• Monitor and respond to basic inquiries received through social media and digital platforms.
• Assist with photography and video content creation during organizational events and activities.
Digital Marketing
• Schedule and publish content across social media platforms.
• Monitor website content and coordinate updates as required.
• Track social media engagement and website analytics and prepare performance reports.
• Assist with email marketing campaigns and contact list management.
Fundraising Support
• Support fundraising campaigns by preparing promotional materials and donor communications.
• Assist in creating sponsorship packages, donor recognition materials, and campaign collateral.
• Coordinate printing, mailing, and distribution of fundraising materials.
• Maintain marketing assets related to fundraising initiatives.
Event Coordination
• Assist with the planning and promotion of fundraising events, community outreach activities, and public education initiatives.
• Coordinate event logistics including promotional materials, registrations, signage, and volunteer support.
• Attend events to provide marketing and communications assistance when required.
• Travel to the Unison at Veiner Center in Medicine Hat will be required to coordinate fundraising events.
Administrative Support
• Maintain marketing calendars and project schedules.
• Organize digital files, photographs, logos, and marketing templates.
• Coordinate printing, vendor communications, and inventory of promotional materials.
• Support budget tracking and invoice processing related to marketing activities.
• Maintain media contact lists and community partner information.
Collaboration
• Work collaboratively with staff across departments to promote programs and services.
• Build positive relationships with community organizations, vendors, sponsors, volunteers, and media representatives.
• Support organizational initiatives that promote diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility.
Qualifications:
Education
• Diploma or bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Business Administration, or a related field.
• Equivalent education and experience may be considered.
Experience
• One to three years of experience in marketing, communications, public relations, or a related role.
• Experience in the nonprofit sector is considered an asset.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Strong organizational and time management abilities with attention to detail.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
• Creative thinking and problem-solving skills.
• Strong customer service orientation.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
• Knowledge of branding and marketing principles.
• Understanding of nonprofit fundraising and donor engagement is an asset.
Technical Skills
• Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
• Canva and/or Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator).
• Website content management systems (e.g., WordPress).
• Social media management platforms.
• Email marketing platforms (e.g., Mailchimp or Constant Contact).
• Basic photography and video editing skills are an asset.
• Experience with donor management (Raiser’s Edge) is an asset.
Working Conditions
• Primarily office-based with occasional evening or weekend work to support events and campaigns.
• Occasional local travel may be required.
• Ability to lift and transport promotional materials weighing up to 20 lbs (9 kg).
