  • Position: Social Services Assistant(Canada Summer Job)

  • Compensation: $20 per hour

  • Terms of Employment: Fixed Term Contract – 8 weeks  (from 6 July to 28 August 2026)

  • Location: Calgary


Job Purpose:
To assist the Seniors Support program team by providing front line support to Kerby clients, ensuring seniors can access programs, benefits and community resources to support their needs.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Answering phone, returning messages, scheduling appointments, assisting clients to complete the intake forms.
  • Assisting clients with benefits and housing applications.
  • Provide general information about programs and services to seniors.
  • Connecting clients with resources in the community
  • Assist with updating the Services and Housing Directory.

 

Experience gained and skills learned:

The youth will have the opportunity to learn the following hard and soft skills:

Hard skills:

  • Phone etiquette and call handling
  • Appointment scheduling using Office Tracker software
  • Data entry and form completion
  • Knowledge of social services and community resources
  • Understanding of benefits and housing application processes
  • Basic administrative skills
  • Computer literacy (Microsoft Office Suite, Email, Excel)

Soft Skills

  • Empathy and compassion (especially when working with seniors or vulnerable populations)
  • Active listening
  • Clear and respectful communication
  • Problem-solving and resourcefulness
  • Cultural sensitivity and inclusivity
  • Time management and organization
  • Adaptability and flexibility

Qualifications Required:
Applicants should meet the following criteria to be eligible for the Canada Summer Jobs program:
•Age between 15 to 30 years
•Be a Canadian citizen or Permanent Resident (International students are not eligible)


Competencies:

  • Has the passion to work and support seniors.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Good administration skills including time management, detail oriented and organized
  • Able to work independently and show initiative
  • Comfortable presenting in front of people
  • Non judgmental/empathetic
  • Computer proficiency in MS Word and Excell


Working Hours:
Summer youth are required to work 8 weeks, 35 hours/week. Hours will be 8am to 4pm or 8:30am to 4:30pm including a one hour of unpaid lunch break.
