Position: Building Services Worker (Canada Summer Job)

Job Purpose:
To support the day-to-day operations of the Facilities department by ensuring safe, efficient, and well-maintained building environments, while assisting with room rentals, events, and facility services. The role also contributes to system improvements, risk management, and special projects to enhance overall operations. This role is ideal for someone who is hands-on, detail-oriented, and committed to maintaining a safe and welcoming environment for staff, clients, and visitors.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The day-to-day activities may include:
Facilities & Operations Support
- Open and close the building, ensuring security protocols are followed.
- Respond to facility-related issues and service requests in a timely manner.
- Provide audiovisual (AV) support for meetings and events.
- Perform routine building inspections and report maintenance concerns.
- Provide janitorial coverage as needed to maintain a clean and safe environment.
- Support kitchen operations, including food purchasing and coverage during staff absences.
Room Rentals & Event Support
- Coordinate room bookings, including scheduling, setup, and logistics.
- Arrange catering services and support event delivery as required.
- Assist clients and staff to ensure successful room rental experiences.
Systems Optimization & Special Projects
- Review and update the Room Rentals Staff Manual; support staff training and explore online training solutions.
- Maintain and update departmental risk registers; support staff awareness and reporting of risks.
- Update and track IT equipment inventory.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within Facilities and related services.

- Operating building security systems (opening/closing procedures, alarm system activation)

Qualifications Required:
Applicants should meet the following criteria to be eligible for the Canada Summer Jobs program:
•Age between 15 to 30 years
•Be a Canadian citizen or Permanent Resident (International students are not eligible)
Competencies:
- Experience in facilities, maintenance, or building operations is an asset.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and respond to changing priorities.
- Basic knowledge of AV equipment and event setup.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Working Conditions:
- Summer youth are required to work 8 weeks, 35 hour/week. Hours will be 8am to 4pm or 8:30am to 4:30pm including a one hour of unpaid lunch break.
- May require occasional evening or weekend work based on events or operational needs.
- Physical tasks may include lifting, moving equipment, and standing for extended periods.
