Food is one of the most important and vital needs to be met in our communities. Unison’s Thrive program aims to combat hunger through a variety of projects and initiatives. 

Free Food Markets at Unison at Kerby Centre

  • Bread and baked goods are available for older adults to pick up. There are often other items available such as frozen meat, pre-made frozen meals, sandwiches, produce, and dairy products
  • All items provided have been generously donated to Unison from a variety of sources across Calgary. These donations come from compassionate contributors including COBS, partnering grocery stores, cafes participating through Second Harvest, and other local businesses.
  • Eligibility: 50+, no proof of income or registration required
  • Tuesdays and Fridays from 11 am - 12 pm

Grocery Delivery & Friendly Visits

  • Grocery shopping, delivery and friendly visits by Unison volunteers
  • Eligibility: 50+, low-income, and homebound older adults (in some cases, Thrive can support short-term support to individuals returning home from the hospital or recovering from illness or surgery)
  • $4 delivery fee in addition to the cost of groceries

Food Basket Delivery & Friendly Visits

Please note, we are not currently accepting new referrals for this program as the length of our waitlist exceeds our capacity at this time.

  • Food delivery and friendly visits to older adults every two weeks on Wednesday afternoons by Unison volunteers
  • Food Baskets include a variety of food, as available, such as bread, baked goods, pre-made meals and produce - we do our best to accommodate dietary needs
  • All items provided have been generously donated to Unison from a variety of sources across Calgary. These donations come from compassionate contributors including COBS, partnering grocery stores, cafes participating through Second Harvest, and other local businesses.

Community Pantry

  • Our Unison community pantry is run on a "Give what you can, Take what you need" model - community members are able to donate to the community pantry and take what they need Monday - Friday between 8 am - 4 pm
  • The Thrive department stocks the pantry on Mondays and Wednesdays at 1 pm
  • Eligibility: 50+, no proof of income or registration required
  • No cost
  • Location: near the Kerby Centre main reception

Community Kitchens

  • Older adults in the community come together to prepare meals for themselves and homebound older adults accessing our Food Basket Delivery program
